Bata Drummer Releases Study of Drums and Spirituality
The bata drums are deeply connected to the Afro-Cuban religion, Santeria, calling to the Orishas of the tradition and invoking their presence through rhythm and song. His recent book, The Artistry of Afro-Cuban Batá Drumming: Aesthetics, Transmission, Bonding, and Creativity, gives readers insight into the cultural practices and religion while also explaining the music and drumming that intertwines with a flourishing spiritual practice.
