Drumming Book Explores the World of Rhythm
Dr. Gareth Dylan Smith has written a book entitled, ‘I Drum, Therefore I Am: Being and Becoming a Drummer’. Sonic State reports that the book is an academic account of what it takes to be a drummer from the perspective of drummers. Dr. Smith is a drum tutor and Diploma Programme Leader at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, which hopes the book will help people better understand the world of drummers. Covering drummer stereotypes and exploring gender and ethnicity as it relates to musicianship, the book shares two decades of Dr. Smith’s observations and experiences through the lens of his sociological background.
