Hawaii Native Hits Like a Girl
Honolulu Fox affiliate, KHON, reports that Taylor Ann Katase is competing in the international “Hit Like a Girl” drumming contest. A senior in high school, Taylor is one of sixty-five entrants in the contest for girls age eighteen and under. The winner receives a new drum kit and a $500 gift certificate, which Taylor plans to donate to her school. She has been drumming for three years and has already performed with recording artists. She says drumming has improved her self-esteem, work ethic, and grades. While her parents were not happy with her instrument choice initially, seeing her joy has increased their support.
