X8 Community Drummer Spotlight: Lance L.
I played conga in a duo in college and in the years after, I sure missed playing drums. Now, I love to sing karaoke and bought a rope tuned African djembe drum to play when everyone sings. (People really love it, it's so different).
Recently my wife found a drum circle nearby & we loved it so much we have now attended three times. I got her a hand drum she uses with a padded, wood burned drum stick she made herself. During karaoke parties we host at home, I use two full size congas to drum as people sing.
Drumming really helps my fibromyalgia pain. I get into the rhythm and the pain just goes away. Our self-employed jobs are stressful, requiring long hours. Drumming sure helps the stress. We SO look forward to the monthly drum circle! Between that and the karaoke drumming, I have a full social life I can count on during my work days.
I mainly play my rope tuned African djembe, but I also play full sized congas.
Healing and fun are such an important part of drumming, we love that you're keeping that tradition alive, Lance! Thank you for sharing your story with us!
Drummers, tell us why YOU love drumming and drum circles! We'd love to share your story, too!
