X8 Community Drummer Spotlight: Steven T.
Drumming is so much more of a healthy (and sometimes) spiritual experience than you would expect. Just the simple act of finding your rhythm and allowing yourself to participate in a steady groove for just a few moments is enough to calm your soul and open up a whole world of experimentation. Our bodies were designed to enjoy the world and drumming is a surefire way to do so. Jamming with others is an immediate way to open up a connection between multiple people and within a group, the song itself becomes a magnification of personalities.
I prefer a traditional drum kit myself, but you really can't go wrong when it comes to percussion. Nothing feeds the soul quite like music. My father introduced drums to me when I was very young and ever since then I've always had a special interest in percussion. Having the opportunity to participate in a circle with others is an experience that I think everyone should take part in at least once in their life. I guarantee they won't ever forget it.
I started playing drums on cardboard boxes in my best friend's garage and eventually moved my way up to a real kit. I've collected a few bongos over the years and would love to mount them on my set someday. I've been using a Pearl Export Series (black on black) for the last 10 years or so and can't imagine using any other brand. The shells and hardware are amazingly durable and I'm proud to have found a loyalty through such a wonderful company.
We agree, nothing feed the soul quite like music! Thank you for sharing your story with us, Steven!
Drummers, tell us why YOU love drumming and drum circles! We'd love to share your story, too!
